An evening indoor/outdoor tour of the stunning McArthur Estate

Like a dreamy snow globe, the enchanting 1829 McArthur Estate radiates a special magic in the moonlit glow of winter.

Guests will be guided through the Victorian gardens, down candlelit pathways, past snow-topped statuary and ice-capped ponds by Friends of Fort York in period uniform.

The beautiful sounds of carols and chorals by the Avanti Chamber Singers will entertain guests at the front of the house as they prepare to enter.

Once inside, guests will be offered a glass of Peninsula Ridge bubbly as they wander through fairy tale rooms, bathed in the light of hundreds of candles. Santa and friends will be waiting en route as melodies by Eddie Pizzo on the grand piano and The Soenen Sisters on harp, flute and cello, provide the perfect musical accompaniment.

Outside, the mood continues with Bubble Taps offering samples of wine from Peller Estates.  Big Head Wines will be offering samples and Wayne Gretzky Estates will be serving nips of whiskey in a whiskey lounge. Hors d’oeuvres and a cheese bar await, while live guitar music by Will Wilson enhances the seasonal ambience and Santa's reindeer lounge in their luxury suites.

Finally, with hot apple cider and gingerbread in hand, guests can cozy up around crackling fires and savour the beauty of this magical candlelit night.

We send a special thank you to the McArthur family and staff for the phenomenal amount of work and creativity they put into this event; and the following talented artists and supporters for contributing so much to the enchantment of ‘A Candlelight Christmas’:

The Soenen Sisters is a talented ensemble of 2 harps, cello, and flute who have been bringing stellar performances to concert stages for years. They are a top choice in Ontario at celebrity events and weddings, and even opened last year at an exciting concert of 'The Tenors'.

Pianist, Eddie Pizzo has been entertaining fans with his vast repertoire of songs for more than 60 years. A Niagara legend, beloved by fans across the region, his talent and charm have ensured his place as a highlight of the McArthurs' annual Holiday House Tour event.

Named ‘Promising New Adult Ensemble’ in the 2019 Choral Canada National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs, the Avanti Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Rachel Rensink-Hoff, is a community-based choir whose mission is to achieve a high level of artistic musical performance from the Renaissance to the present.

Live guitar by Will Wilson will serenade guests as they enjoy the samples and hors d'oeuvres. Will is a returning performer at our evening event and has been a regular performer at the TD Jazz Festival.

Volunteers in period costume from The Friends of Fort George will guide guests through the gardens and regale them with stories of what has transpired on this incredible, historic property. The Friends of Fort George is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with Parks Canada to preserve and promote the heritage of Niagara National Historic Sites.

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum provides authentic Victorian costumes for our volunteers to wear at the historic McArthur Estate evening event. The Niagara Historical Society continues to promote and preserve our local heritage by owning and operating the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum. See our Annual Sites page for more information about the museum.

Linda Ridgeway from Bubble Taps has generously provided a three-wheeled beverage bar to support the work of Rotary. Samplings of red and white Peller Estates wines will be served from an Ape Piaggio.

Trish Romance’s daughter, Tanya Peterson, will be showcasing many of her mother's original paintings, curated on the estate walls.

Grinchy Tina Lus and jolly Ward Simpson are always festive crowd pleasers. Ho, ho, ho.

Doug Rempel of Bosley Real Estate will once again be providing his trademark gingerbread cookies.
